contains books and manuscripts on alchemy and early science dating from the 15th
to the 19th century, plus modern support material and reprints. Mainly German
and Latin texts, the collection includes one incunabulum dating from 1490 and
one manuscript c.1450. Many items are extremely rare and valuable.
The collection is listed in a printed bibliography, Bibliotheca Chemica (2v,
1906), by John Ferguson. Copies of the bibliography are available for purchase
from the Library.
