SFX Linking Service at University of Strathclyde Library         [SFX FAQs]    [ppt]    [ppt text version]

What is SFX?

SFX is an OpenURL linking resolver that allows users to link directly to the electronic full-text for a reference (the SFX target) plus other related information. These links are available via the SFX menu.

SFX menu

The SFX menu will display when you click:
the Find it Strathlib button  button or equivalent link from a search in one of our electronic databases.
the Strathlib button from our SFX Ejournal lists.
the go button button from our Citation Linker.

Ejournal lists

SFX provides lists of our electronic journals - alphabetically, by SFX subject heading, by ISSN or service provider. These lists are more comprehensive than the library catalogue as they also include ejournal titles from our database services such as ABI/Inform, Hein Online, Literature Resource Center and Omnifile. At present Westlaw non UK journals and LexisNexis Butterworths are not OpenURL compliant and titles on these services can only be found by searching these databases directly.

Ejournal links

The Strathlib button button will take you to the SFX menu screen and give details of years and volumes available plus access information. The journal title link will take you directly to the electronic service unless that title is available from more than one service - in which case the title link will go to the SFX menu screen.

Citation Linker

Citation Linker allows you to search for a known journal article to find out if full-text electronic access is available. The go button button will take you to the SFX menu screen.
