Access to our electronic resources requires authentication either by username/password or by University IP address. Different service providers require different means of authentication. It is essential to link to these resources using urls provided to these resources by the Library's web pages. This will ensure you are using the correct authentication system for accessing the service.
No - none of our services require an Athens password.
The Library no longer uses Athens authentication and we no
longer issue Athens accounts.
Other libraries, however, still use Athens
authentication so you may still see an Athens login option on some services. Ignore this
unless it includes an Institutional login option - some services have a combined
Athens/Institution Login option - in which case follow the link and
choose Institutional login.
There may be several reasons why your login does not work:
your browser may have cached previous authentication or link information which is no longer valid. To check this, please clear your cache and cookies - eg. in IE go to the Tools option on the top menu and choose Internet Options. Then under Browsing history, click on the Delete... option. Then choose Delete all... and click OK. Close your browser and then re-open it. Then try connecting to the service again.
there may be a problem with your University DS account, especially if you have more than one DS account. To check this login to our WOK service. If this doesn't work, then there is probably a problem with your account and you should contact IT Services helpdesk.
You may be using an old link which no longer connects to the correct authentication page. It is essential to link to Library resources using urls provided by the Library's web page services. This will ensure you are using the correct authentication system for accessing the service.
If you are not using a browser compatible with the service you are accessing, then the search and/or display functionality may not work properly - eg. AOL, older versions of IE or Firefox. You should be able to check which browsers are supported by the service you are accessing by checking the service provider's help or FAQ pages.
